Continuing education from Vision & Learning Center for the therapists and clinicians we work alongside in South Florida — starting with Developmental Aspects of Vision for Occupational Therapists, a live, hands-on class held at our Boynton Beach and Coconut Creek offices.
Upcoming CE Opportunities
We teach a continuing education course for occupational therapists, Developmental Aspects of Vision for Occupational Therapists — what visual development looks like as it builds, how it shows up in a child’s reading and learning, and how to screen for the pieces that are not working. It runs live and hands on, as a two-hour Saturday morning class from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, and has been held at both our Boynton Beach and Coconut Creek offices.
The two hours cover four areas:

- Testing Analysis

Developmental Aspects of Vision
This course is an introduction to the developmental aspects of vision. It begins with the foundations of human development and works up to the high-level skills required for efficient reading and learning. Areas of visual development are emphasized in order to outline the treatment sequence when working with the pediatric population in occupational therapy. The course provides hands-on experience performing screening tests that assess both visual efficiency and visual perceptual processing, and ends with a discussion of some special considerations of the visual system.
Foundations of Human Development
The course begins at the beginning — how human development builds, layer by layer, toward the high-level skills a child needs to read and learn efficiently.
Areas of Visual Development
Which visual skills develop when, and how that order sets the treatment sequence for working with the pediatric population in occupational therapy.
Hands-On Screening Practice
Time with the tests themselves: performing screening procedures that assess both visual efficiency and visual perceptual processing.
Special Considerations
The course closes with a discussion of special considerations of the visual system — the cases that do not follow the usual developmental script.
Written for Pediatric Occupational Therapists
Vision and occupational therapy goals overlap constantly — handwriting, copying from the board, visual-motor control, sensory processing. This course is aimed squarely at the therapists doing that work with children.
Pediatric Occupational Therapists
The course is built around the pediatric OT caseload — the children whose fine-motor, handwriting, sensory and visual-motor goals overlap with visual development.
