Vision and Learning

Pediatric Vision Associates' focus is to identify vision problems in children. Vision problems can making reading and learning extremely challenging causing children to struggle at school. Children may not know they are seeing things different than other children so they don’t to complain or ask for help. Scheduling eye exams with an optometrist who specializes in binocular vision testing can help identify the link between how your child's eyes are functioning and the impact on their academic performance , Schools screening and vision screenings at the pediatrician miss over 50% of vision problems in children.

It is important for your child to get comprehensive eye exams starting at 6 months old. By the time a child is entering kindergarten, they should have had two additional eye exams, one at three years old and another before entering kindergarten.

Learning requires a number of visual skills, such as, the ability to switch focus, eye tracking, and coordination. A comprehensive eye exam that includes visual skills testing determines how well the child can coordinate their visual skills. Our job is to detect any abnormalities in your child's visual system and put together a treatment plan to ensure your child can perform to their potential.
